Ariel Helwani Interviews CM Punk on Sonnen, Lesnar, Vince and More

ARIEL Helwani has interviewed the current WWE Champion CM Punk ahead of UFC on FOX 2 and spoke on a variety of different topics.

On CM Punk appearing at UFC on FOX 2, Punk said that he did talk with Chael Sonnen about appearing in his corner at the event. Punk revealed that the news was leaked before ‘the chickens were hatched’. He became friends with Sonnen through WWE Road Agent Gerald Brisco – who scouts the MMA circuit for potential WWE stars and introduced the 2 men to each other.

On rumors that he pulled out because he would be cheered more than the fights, Punk said that he didn’t want to upset anybody and overshadow anyone at the event.

Speaking on his epic promo in the Summer of 2011, Punk said that since then more people recognize him and that ‘certain people in the company have finally started to build faith in him’.

When discussing Brock Lesnar, Punk said that he would welcome him back to the WWE – but doesn’t think he would be interested.

Punk put over Kevin Nash and Mick Foley, but said that they probably wouldn’t be able to handle the schedule today at their age. He added that they do not need to prove anything.

On comparing Vince McMahon to Dana White, he said: “I like that Dana is way more off-the-cuff than Vince is. I think the fans of the UFC can relate to Dana more than the fans of WWE can relate to Vince. I don’t know if that’s an age thing or what that is.”
